Market Drayton Hockey Club

Men's Club Info

Affectionately known as "The Pirates", Market Drayton Hockey Club was founded in 1904; its members often also being part of the cricket club. They played at Betton Road on the grass until the advent of artificial pitches and now play league matches at Keele University. We offer hockey for all ages and abilities, running three men’s Saturday teams in the Warwick Printing Midlands Hockey Leagues; our First XI playing in the West Midlands Premier Division. We are based in North Shropshire with members from near-by Staffordshire and Cheshire.

In 2017 we entered a midweek indoor hockey league played against clubs from the West Midlands at the Langley School in Telford and have been playing in the Mercian Summer League for several years.

Training takes place for adults and older juniors on Thursday evenings from 7.30 – 9.00 pm at Whitchurch Leisure Centre. For further details please contact our Training Officer.

We are looking to breathe new wind into the sails of our junior section, believing that a thriving junior section is vital for the future of the club. Training has recently been expanded [2017] and junior coaching takes place at the Maurice Chandler Sports Centre (details on the junior page).

We have a range of membership fees with adults and social members paying £3, students and juniors over 16 paying £1.50 and younger juniors paying £1. We feel that we have a relaxed feel to a club with an outstanding competitive atmosphere!

We also have a great social element to the club with players and supporters regularly meeting after games at our clubhouse in Market Drayton. Everyone then ventures out together, social and fundraising events being a big part of MDHC culture.
