1st XI On The Brink Of Perfect Season

March 25, 2013

Nick Reed & Phil Williams v Kingswinford

Market Drayton go into the last game of the season, 12pm April 6th at Keele University, against Bloxwich knowing that a win in their final league game will ensure "invincibility" is gained with regards to their West Midlands One campaign.

The side, led by Manager Nick Reed and Captain James Joule have notched up nineteen wins this season, scoring 102 goals along the way.

Brendan Jones leads the Midlands scoring charts with 44 goals with skipper Joule the club's second top scorer 20.
Drayton also boast the best defence in the league; with Craig Ruscoe only conceding a miserly 25 goals.

The day will also see the inaugural Thomas Chevins Memorial Game versus a side made up from mostly York University hockey players; this game will follow the 1st XI fixture at 2pm at Keele on the day - before all club members and guests make their way to The Four Alls Inn for MDHC's End of Season Dinner and Presentation Evening.

Drayton Nicely Placed Ahead of North Shropshire Derby

October 18, 2012

This weekend sees Market Drayton and Whitchurch contest The North Shropshire Derby for the first time in three seasons.

Whitchurch, newly promoted to West Midlands Division One, will visit Keele University to play Drayton in a fixture that, down the years, has produced a lot of colour in some keenly fought games.

Such is the geographical distance between the towns a rivalry has always been evident; and thanks to a similar ability down the years – the contests have always been both a fight...

Market Drayton Advertiser: 2nd XI MDHC 9 Kidderminster 2

March 15, 2012

Market Drayton's second eleven played Kidderminster at home last Saturday knowing that to achieve promotion they must win their remaining two fixtures.

An optimistic Drayton side started the game well and pressured Kidderminster from the off; the pressure soon turned to goals with Richard Rawsthorne providing some much needed strength and pace going forward.

It was Rawsthorne who opened the scoring thanks to some creative passing from the midfield.

The scoring continued as Drayton's pressure ...

March 13, 2012

Market Drayton's first eleven did what was required last Saturday with an emphatic 10-2 away win against West Bromwich to set up a final weekend doubleheader which, if successfully navigated, will mean promotion to the West Midlands Premier Division.

Brendan Jones scored five, Kabir Bowry and Jordan Chevins notched two each and Simon Rawsthorne got one to give Drayton a comfortable win away at the league's basement club.

Drayton went into half time five goals to the good; knowing that goal di...

Market Drayton Advertiser: 1st XI MDHC 3 Kidderminster 0

March 9, 2012

Market Drayton's first team entertained Kidderminster at Keele University on Saturday and knew that only a win would do if they were to remain in the promotion race.

Kidderminster had beaten Drayton earlier in the season and a team containing many old heads and plenty of experience proved difficult to break down early in the match.

But with top scorer Brendan Jones upfront Drayton found their touch and went one up the experience striker finishing from close range.

Kidderminster struggled to g...

Market Drayton Advertiser: 1st XI Wednesbury 2 MDHC 2 & MDHC 4 Stafford 0

March 1, 2012

Market Drayton's first team came into this double game weekend knowing that positive results would give them momentum and the upper hand in the promotion race.

Drayton visited Wednesbury on Saturday; their opponents on a good run, occupying third position in the table, having played a game more than Drayton.

Wednesbury started the brighter, Drayton second to many challenges, their away form the fragile aspect of their season so far. The home side took the lead from a short corner after twenty...

Market Drayton Advertiser: 1st XI MDHC 4 Tamworth 0

February 24, 2012

Following two weeks of fixtures cancelled due to the cold weather Market Drayton's first team resumed their fixtures against Tamworth in a top of the table clash - the winners likely to hold a distinct advantage in the race for promotion.

Drayton started well, an intensity in their play that had been lacking in previous games against Old Wulfrunians and Redditch, and looked to capitalise on a tight hold of possession in the early exchanges.

Drayton created the better of the early chances; the...

Market Drayton Advertiser: Captain's Log - David Poole

February 16, 2012

Been a while since the last captains log, and a lot has happened since then. The team is performing well- the back three are strong and the formation works as we have proved with consistent results.

Midfield and forwards are working hard but I am not sure we have found the right balance in some positions going forward. Going into a tough game today we had made things difficult for ourselves earlier in the season, losing in a fixture we should certainly of won.

After Saturday's draw we are i...
