With promotion in the minds of every Market Drayton player this season, the prospect of the three relegated teams from the West Midlands Premier in the first three fixtures will provide food for thought for the town's hockey players as they begin their campaign this Saturday.

Joule's men face the long trip down to Evesham in Worcestershire for their first away fixture and will be looking to hit the ground running, a necessity given the pedigree of the players and club they will come up agains...

Market Drayton Hockey Club have recently won the Shropshire Shield fending off Ludlow and Whitchurch at Lilleshall this Saturday; an impressive result as they looked to gain some pre-season form ahead of a hopeful campaign in the MRHA West Midlands Division One.

Shropshire Cup Winners

Shropshire Cup Tournament at Lilleshall - Saturday 10th September 2011

Market Drayton came out winners of the 2011 Shropshire Cup competition held for the smaller clubs of Shropshire. Beating the title holders of last year, Whitchurch, in the first game on flicks, and Oswestry in the final.

Whitchurch only managed to field ten players against Market Drayton, however Drayton's lack of training and playing time together showed how important this is leading up to a new season. Eventually settling...
